There is no peace when you serve Satan! What is caging
you may ask? It is when a person is literally put in a cage spiritually, so
that they cannot see the wrong actions of someone, or so that they will believe
lies about someone. It’s kind of like putting mental blinders on someone. Like
the blinders you’d put on horses so they see in only one direction.
We must be ever vigilant as Christians so that we can
discern if a person is a true servant of Jesus Christ. Once a person is caged,
it is easy to place all kinds of wrong thoughts into their minds and they will
not realize that the thoughts are inconsistent with God’s word. This is one way
in which demonic doctrines can get accepted in the Christian Churches today.
As Christians, we must refuse to accept anything or anyone at face value and test everything against God’s word. Don’t fall for someone just because of his or her charisma. Unfortunately, in today’s society we are easily susceptible to following people with a lot of charisma.
I believe that is perhaps one of the greatest problems within our churches today. Too many people may obtain positions of leadership simple because they have very charismatic personalities which naturally attract people.
Satanism is a big problem around the world and it is beyond anything that has been portrayed in the press. Every city, town or country has its covens, groups or community of people who directly worship and serve Satan.
Unfortunately, it also appears that even some High schools, Universities, Colleges and even Christian schools have their own covens.
In addition to this, did you know that many Asian religions practice another form of Satanism like Egyptians and Caribbean cults?
It doesn’t matter how you pretty it up and make it look glamorous, every religion that worships and serves demons is a form of Satanism. Some people refer to them as energies, vibrations, pagan gods, spirit entities etc.
I don’t care! They are still demons!
In 2 Timothy 4:1-5 it states,
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction.
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministries.
The Appeal Renewed
2 Timothy 2:1-13
1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrusted to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others
3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.
5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.
6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.
7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel,
9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.
10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
And I forward to verse 19
19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription:
“The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.
21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.
24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,
26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
Types of Doorways
Inheritance (i.e. generational curses)
General occult games
Drinking blood (animal & human)
Occult & horror movies
Multiple sexual relationships
Curses can also be placed on mirrors and this can be used as a doorway for demons to enter into a place. Mirrors are a common doorway frequently used to establish communication with the spirit world. All Christians must be alerted to this source of trouble, especially pastors and Christian leaders.
Terrible damage is being done within Christian churches and in relationships between people because of these curses and incantations. We must always be alert and sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Put on the whole Amor of God and ask the Lord to show you how to use it. Even though we may not be able to see the armor of God, it is real armor in the spirit world. We can use it in the physical world with the help of the Holy Spirit.
So, what exactly is the Armor of God you may ask? In Ephesian 6:10-18 it says,
“10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
And I say personally, “19Pray for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given to me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Amen”
1 Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. 2 Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid. 3 Brandish spear and javelin[ against those who pursue me. Say to me, “I am your salvation.”
4 May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay. 5 May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the Lord driving them away; 6 may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.
7 Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, 8 may ruin overtake them by surprise— may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. 9 Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation. 10 My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, Lord? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”
11 Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. 12 They repay me evil for good and leave me like one bereaved. 13 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, 14 I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother. 15 But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; assailants gathered against me without my knowledge. They slandered me without ceasing. 16 Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked;[ they gnashed their teeth at me.
17 How long, Lord, will you look on? Rescue me from their ravages, my precious life from these lions. 18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among the throngs I will praise you. 19 Do not let those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; do not let those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye. 20 They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land. 21 They sneer at me and say, “Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we have seen it.”
22 Lord, you have seen this; do not be silent. Do not be far from me, Lord. 23 Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord. 24 Vindicate me in your righteousness, Lord my God; do not let them gloat over me. 25 Do not let them think, “Aha, just what we wanted!” or say, “We have swallowed him up.”
26 May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion; may all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace. 27 May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.”
28 My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long.
I believe there is power in God’s word and we can
still act upon His word today as the Holy Spirit shows us where to set our
Please note however that it is important that we keep an
attitude of humility and grace as we pray. John Dawson reminds us,
“As you stand in the gap for your city, allow the Holy Spirit to shine the bright light of truth into the inner rooms of your soul.
Run from religious deceit that would seduce you into believing that you are more superior to everyone else. It is only by the blood of the Lamb and the power of the Spirit that we stand free from the chains of guilt and the sentence of death.”
A big obstacle that we as women face in maintaining an effective prayer life is the persistent and ever popular questions of,
“How can my prayers possibly make a difference in my life, my family, my community, my country or the entire world?”
This hesitation may possibly be Satan’s most effective
method of discouraging us from pursuing prayer. Yet scripture clearly shows us
that when believers pray on earth, they activate activities in the heavenlies.
The prophet Daniel had an angelic visitation after three
weeks of prayer and fasting, and repenting on behalf of his people. The angel
told Daniel that on the first day he humbled himself to pray, God had heard his
words. In fact, the angel had been dispatched with a message in response to
Daniel’s prayer, but had encountered interference from the “prince of Persia.”
Ultimately the messenger angel had to get help from the
angel Michael to get his message through and he delivered a prophetic message
to Daniel. If there were rulers or principalities in the spiritual realm trying
to stop Daniel’s prayers from being answered then, who are we to believe we are
I still believe there are hostile spiritual forces trying to block our prayers from being answered and scripture implies that these principalities rule over different geographical locations.
The Book of Daniel
The book of Daniel illustrates how God protected and promoted four young men.
When Daniel and his friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego demonstrated their faithfulness to God, they are delivered from deadly perils by God’s mighty acts.
In the bible, Daniel was given the ability to interpret dreams and in the second part of the book of Daniel, it describes visions and messages that Daniel received from God through angelic messengers. These visions are represented in the cryptic language and symbolic terms typical of apocalyptic literature.
The End Times
12 “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
5 Then I,
Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the
river and one on the opposite bank. 6 One of
them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river,
“How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”
7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.”
8 I heard,
but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all
9 He replied, “Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit
The gift of the Holy Spirit empowers us to be strong women of God, even in our moments of weakness. In the bible, Jesus promised his followers, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, or Strengthener) that He may remain with you forever; the Spirit of Truth.
The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
The Work of the Holy Spirit (John 15:26-27)
26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
John 16:1-15 New
International Version (NIV)
16 “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.
3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, 5 but now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things.
7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
Prays for His Disciples (John 17:6-19)
6 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by] that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Prays for All Believers (John 17:20-26)
prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me
through their message, 21 that all of them may be
one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so
that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have
given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them
and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world
will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory,
the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
God in His marvelous grace, began revealing His will
for man right from the beginning, in Genesis 3:15, which is the first prophecy
related to God’s redemptive plan for the salvation of mankind.
From there onward, through the pens of many writers, including myself, I strongly believe that God will continue to reveal more and more of His plan, which we can still find in the Bible today!
The Power of Three: A
During the third month of the calendar year (March), we
shall celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, also known as
Easter Sunday. Some churches may also celebrate Palm Sunday, which is the final
Sunday before Easter Sunday.
Did you know that it is said that Christ died and rose again
on the third day and that there is a symbolic meaning for the number (3) three?
Biblically, three is the number of the Godhead and the
number of Divine completeness?
“I’m Yulaw, I’m nobody’s b!#ch!
I don’t need to know you, you only need to know me. I will be ‘The One!”
In the 2001 Movie, The One, Gabriel Yulaw (Jet Li), once an officer of the “Multiverse Authority, an agency that polices interdimensional travel via wormholes, seeks to hunt down all variations of himself in alternate universes.
By killing all 124 of his other selves (thus becoming the last version) and absorbing their life energies which was making him stronger, faster and increasing his mental abilities, he believes he will become an immortal godlike being call “The One”.
I love movies and plays, but did you know that play takes many forms and promotes cognitive development in many ways?
Play, according to Jean Piaget, is a child’s work.
Children often use play to learn about their physical surroundings and use dramatic play to master symbolic representation and increase their social knowledge, thereby reducing their self-centered orientation.
By engaging in constructive play, children acquire bits of information that they use to build their knowledge.
Greater knowledge, in turn gives them increasingly higher levels of understanding and competence.
In addition, through active play, children develop skills that make them feel physically confident and self-assured.
An example of a kind of play are games and competitive play.
This kind of play involves cooperation with others and with following rules that define appropriate behavior.
This also contributes to the development of learning rules, understanding cause-and-effect and consequences of various actions as well as winning and losing.
In the movie, Yulaw is very competitive and is clearly what we would call an ‘Alpha male’, very dominant and wants to be the Chief, the Leader, the King, the Ruler, or as the movie states The One!
Whilst there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a leader, we must be cognizant of the way we choose to acquire such status.
For instance, Yulaw’s crave for power was only being acquired so that he could become a godlike immortal being dominating the multiverse at his pleasure.
He wasn’t seeking to use it for good and he definitely wasn’t obtaining his power in an honorable way.
Speaking of power and law- In the bible, God showed great restraint dealing with sin from the days of Adam until the days of Noah.
He operated in mercy, love, and forgiveness. But in the end, sin multiplied so grievously before the Flood that after the Flood, God handed down the Law of Moses.
However according to my studies, the Old Testament is not an exact representation of God and only serves to bring condemnation and give strength to sin.
The Old Covenant was an inferior covenant to the New Covenant and the whole book of Hebrews addresses this concept in details.
Have you ever felt guilty?
Do you know where that came from?
You got that through the Law, through the Old Testament administration.
The Law make you feel guilty. It condemns you, according to 2 Corinthians 3:9 and Romans 3:19
Condemnation is not to be confused with the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
He is on the inside of you and will let you know immediately if what you are thinking of doing or have done is sin or not God’s will for your life.
Conviction draws you to God and leads you in His ways.
Condemnation drives you away from intimacy with God and makes you feel helpless to do anything but sin.
The bible says the purpose of the Law was to give us the knowledge of sin. Lightning wasn’t striking people every time they committed sin.
At the time, what seemed to be a lack of seriousness toward sin had and still have people thinking, Well I know I should be better, so I’m going to make a New Year’s Resolution and not beat my wife anymore or cheat on her. Or I’m going to stop drinking or doing drugs.
They would temporarily improve their lives and start trusting in their own goodness.
However, they still aren’t considering the seriousness of the sin they have in their lives.
Without the Law, mankind began to think, Well, just do the best you can and God’s going to accept you.
They didn’t understand how deadly sin was because God hadn’t punished it.
So, God began to reveal His true wrath on sin by giving the Law.
Suddenly people realized what they had thought was right and wrong was totally off base.
Their conscience had been defiled and deaden, so God had to help them realize what right and wrong really were.
The Law revived their consciences.
The correct purpose of the Law is to give revelation to people who do not see the need for God.
People who do not understand they have sinned against God and have deceived themselves.
2 Thessalonians Chapter 2
New International Version (NIV)
The Man of Lawlessness
1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.
3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
In verse 4, we can say that this person believes they’re a God. A person deserving of people’s worship. However, an idol is any person, object or activity you give a higher priority in your life than a relationship with God.
An idol can be your home, your job, a vehicle, a relationship, or even your family. An idol can be a pet, a computer, or what you look at on that computer. An idol can be alcohol, drugs, sex, or any sin.
An idol can be the work you do for the Lord that consumes all your energy and time. God says He’s a jealous God. He wants our time and attention.
And verse 5 continues to tell us what Paul continues to encourage us by saying,
5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you, I used to tell you these things?
6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.
8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,
10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as first fruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,
17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
The Law can be used to show that they are not going to heaven without salvation through Jesus Christ.
However, Hebrews 10 states,
1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming-not the realities themselves. For this reason, it can never, by the same sacrifices repeat endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
2 I f it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshippers would have been cleansed once and for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.
3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins
4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world: Please forward to verse eight
8 First he said, “Sacrifice and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them” (although the law required them to be made).
9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.
10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.
11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties, again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when this priest (Jesus Christ who is ‘The One’) had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.
13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool,
14 because by ONE sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this.
First, he says:
16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”
17 “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”
18 And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.
In conclusion, I say,
19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is his body,
21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised IS FAITHFUL.
In the Western world, not only have men dominated the playing fields, but athletic qualities such as aggression, competitiveness, strength, speed, power, and teamwork have always been associated with masculinity.
Consequently, the controversy surrounding female athleticism introduced fundamental questions about what exactly was considered manhood and womanhood.
Would women engaging in a traditional male activity become more manlike?
Would they still aspire to become mothers, be considered attractive, find men attractive and desire feminine attire?
These are just some of the questions female athletes have had to challenge and endure and continue to do so over the years.
Nineteenth-century medical science characterized women as the physiologically inferior sex, weakened and ruled by their reproductive systems. Formally educated doctors at the time, eager to secure their professional status took a special interest in women’s health problems and sought to emphasis women’s “poor health”. (Lol!) Special negative interest was placed on women’s chronic fatigue, pain and illness, mood swings, and menstrual irregularities. Experts at the time even theorized that the cyclical fluctuations of female physiology caused physical, emotional, and moral vulnerability and debilitation. Imagine that! Even critics at the time believed that sports posed dangers to the female reproductive system and a loss of sexual control or perhaps even a loss of sexual desires altogether.
The above sentence I had to read a few times and even check the validity of the book, “Coming on Strong, Gender and Sexuality in Twentieth-Century Women’s Sport by Susan K. Cahn” where I received the information. Lol!
Susan K. Cahn has done a serious study of women in sports and at the time when the above-mentioned book was published in 1994 she was an assistant professor of history at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
I felt she effectively captured the challenge women faced on all fronts.
From the women who were being accused of being poor imitations of male athletes to the Athletic Directors, Coaches and Physical Education Teachers who were known for imposing constraints through dress codes, off-field behavior codes, and “girls’ rules” that limited physical contact and reduced the size of playing courts and fields.
Cahn even touched on the perceptions of sexual danger for women in sports and that such perceptions were fueled by widespread societal fears about female passions running “red hot” and becoming unleashed and out of control. (Lol!)
According to the library of Congress, during the 1928 and 1932 Olympics, critics objected to women’s high-level strenuous competition as physically and mentally injurious, they even attempted to eliminate track and field from regional and national events.
However, Betty Robinson, a Chicagoan who in 1928 won the first-ever Olympic women’s 100-meter sprint, thankfully ignored them.
By the 1930s, it was the “masculine” quality of track and field rather than its effect on women’s health that drew the most criticism.
Thank the Lord- Now I actual feel during my research that the criticism might actually have some merit because the initial objections were just too hilarious!
Further in my studies I learnt that African American interest in track and field and the growing tolerance towards women’s athletics set the stage for the emergence of black women’s track at the precise moment when the majority of white women and the white public rejected the sport as undignified for women.
African American women compiled their record of excellence while suffering the constraints of racial and gender discrimination.
However, despite these obstacles black women’s track and field survived and even thrived.
I’m very proud of my home country Jamaica and the wealth of talented athletes they have produced over the years.
Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson is one of the fastest women in the world and at 25, I believe we still haven’t seen anything yet!
I strongly believe she’s a force to be reckon with and truly epitomizes what our Caribbean young ladies can aspire to become like one day.
Many other beautiful and gifted athletes like Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown, just to name a few, are actively forging ahead and creating wonderful examples of what an athletic woman can become, even though they are continuous scrutinized.
However, they must endure and show the world the enormous strength it takes to be a leader in the realm of sports that was once considered “just for men”
The 100m specialist Shelly-Ann first caught the world’s attention at the 2008 Olympic Games when she became the first Caribbean woman to win the 100m gold at the Olympics. At the time she was only 21 years old. Imagine that young ladies!
In 2012, she then successfully defended her 100m title, becoming the third woman to win two consecutive 100m gold medals again at the Olympics.
Then, after winning bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics, she then became the first woman in history to win 100m medals at three consecutive Olympic Games.
She has also won seven World Championships gold medals across the 100m, 200m and 4X100 relay events.
The thrill of college is that there is so much unknown – your major, your relationships, hell, even yourself, are all fair game to change.
And it’s exciting.
No longer are you a high schooler who must be limited to the confines of your social balance back home; you finally grow into who you’re destined to become because, technically, the only thing that can possible hold you back now is your own fear.
Yet, with all these exciting possibilities, it is always too easy to forget one important thing: you really don’t know anyone. Suddenly, this new start seems dangerous when you do not know what your new colleagues are truly capable of.
I experienced this for myself this week when I found out somebody who, for a moment, I thought could be more than a friend, is an abuser.
Witnessing the way he physically hurt my friend is something that I will never forget; the countless amount of times my mind replays the scene prevents it.
I cannot unhear the sound of her hitting the ground,
I cannot unsee his anger,
And I can never fail to remember her pain.
So, amid all the adventures that wait to be discovered and the friends that wait to be made, never forget that your discretion should always come into play.
Because, sometimes, someone’s mysterious ways can lead to tragedy.
Her was Alessandra. Nobody knew her last name because no one ever cared to ask. She was 22 when I met her, or should I say… rescued her. Now wait a minute before you offer praise for my kind deed, for many a soul has this young girl encountered yet was never even offered a crumb from the master’s table. So I did what so many other’s had a chance to do, but never cared enough to. She deserved it long ago; to be saved from a life of undeserved terror, neglect and disdain.
It was a cold and rainy Fall evening on the winding mountain passes of Santa Cruz California. The landscape was a beauty to behold and if you have never visited Northern California, then add it to your bucket list. I admired and respected the majestic quality of this place as I hoped others did. Picturesque views like that of a postcard in a land of permanent vacations.
My name is Lucas Heston and I am a 45 year old business man from Duluth Minnesota. I am divorced 3 years and I am married to my work. But I am not important here, Alessandra is. This story is about her; a story that is out of the ordinary. I hope I can tell it in a way that changes you, because it changed me. I hope in some way it changes you.
It was 5:00pm Friday and I had just finished up at the convention, my employer having sent me there to sharpen my trade skills, goal… making him more money. Hey, it was the nature of the beast I thought. This was my fifth time here in Santa Cruz. I loved it here and I always made my way to the boardwalk every time I visited and I always had a great time. Eclectic cuisine and colorful people that had some of the best weed in the Nation. It seemed as if everyone here was in a non-stop comedy where laughter and smiles where the status-quo. Panhandlers even begged with a smile and a nice gesture. Maybe they were onto something here.
I made my way through the droves of California dreamers and I could see how once you were here, it was hard to leave. I rented a bike and cruised the boardwalk in the bike lane slowly. Off in the distance I could see some ominous clouds forming offshore. Surfers paid no mind to the impending threat and surfed onward. I rode up the mountain road taking in all the scenery, enjoying the sense of freedom I felt. I breathed in the fresh air, a breeze that was seasoned with a hint of salt from the Pacific Ocean. I Always loved to hear the ocean off in the distance when I rode here and the familiar flavor of the air comforted me. I seemed to miss these small nuances even more every time I left.
My hotel was a frogs jump from the convention center and I had mentioned to Malcolm at the bike rental shop that if I didn’t return before closing time that I would just pay double and bring the bike back before I departed. It started to sprinkle a little and I felt an urgency to make it to the hotel before it got any worse. I pedaled hard and fast swerving through twists and turns like a ballerina in rhythm. The clouds were now overhead and the darkness they brought was eerily somber, mingled with a touch of uncertainty. A feeling of anxiety washed over me like warm molasses on a scoop of ice cream, encompassing me. I shivered.
Up in the distance I noticed off in a shallow washout what looked like a body. I squeezed the brakes on the rental bike and it let out a low whine as the pads met the aluminum wheel and water before stopping me completely. I got off the bike and hurried down the embankment, the shape now becoming more identifiable the closer I got. It was a female, her hair a disheveled mess of neglect. The rain came down in sheet-bursts. The landscape down this ravine was fast becoming a muddy mess. I slid down, half falling with purpose.
“Madam!” I said anxiously. “Madam are you okay!?”
I slid in next to her and I could tell she was alive, her whimpers giving it away. There were some scratches on her face and her arms had some bruising on them.
“Let me call 911 for you…you need help!” I said felling dutiful.
I reached into the small pack on my waist for my phone, the rain now only drizzling lightly.
“NO!” She yelped suddenly, grabbing my wrist.
“Let me help you! What are you doing in this ditch like this!?” I asked with sincerity.
“Just help me get out of here sir…PLEASE!” She replied skeptically.
I helped her up and made it back topside on the bridge. She walked with a slight limp and I offered her my arm for support. We walked in silence and I could see my hotel about a quarter mile past the bridge. I walked the rental bike in one arm and a strange woman in the other. Darkness had crept in by the time we made it to the hotel and the rain was now a fine mist, more like ocean spray.
“Are you hurt?” I asked as we sat on a bench that overlooked the beach-front.
“I am ok.” She replied, wiping the rain and the tears away with her hands.
“Why were you laying off the side of the road back there?” I said, perplexed.
“Do you have somewhere I can wash up?” She asked ignoring my question.
“Yes…certainly.” I answered and then said, ” My name is Lucas…and you are!?”
“Alessandra.” She answered coyly.
“Nice to meet you Alessandra.” I said with an air of uncertainty.
“Thank you for helping me sir.” She said reaching her hand out.
All I remember from this point on is Alessandra’s hand reaching up and covering my eyes. I could see her laying on a bed, my viewpoint as if I was watching from above, unable to move or speak. It was Alessandra, but younger, I would guess around 13. I saw a man come into her room and approach her. The only light in the room shone through a gap in the curtain was from a distant street lamp outside. Alessandra lay still, riveted by the fear her perpetrator brought with him. I watched in horror as he raped her, his moans of pleasure masking the cries of pain, innocence stolen, lost forever. I wanted to scream out in protest but I was paralyzed by a force I could not explain. I didn’t want to watch anymore and when I could’nt stand another second I was transported to another place in time.
Alessandra was a little older now perhaps 15 I guessed. She sat at a table as a haggard woman cooked eggs in a frying pan. Alessandra’s hands were bound together in front of her and her ankles were fastened to the legs of the chair crudely. The woman cooking would stop cooking periodically long enough to punch and slap her, screaming vulgarities an inch from her ear. She force fed her, stabbing her gums with a fork as she crammed eggs into her mouth. I wanted to scream out but my wanton desire was met with silence. I wondered what evil lived in the hearts of people capable of such things.
A series of visions and dream like scenarios played out before my minds eye. More rapes, beatings and forced drug use. I saw a room full of people getting drunk and high. A big black man used his gun to pistol whip Alessandra for everyone’s entertainment. They pushed her outside at one point and she eventually crawled under the porch to sleep, laying there broken and shamed, her only crime…being born.
Assault after assault, vision after vision the journey went on. Alessandra, from what I could tell, only knew pain and torment. Everyone seemed to use her, inflicting untold evil upon her at every turn. I saw flashes of her life, group homes, foster holmes, a baby abandoned at a fire station which I assumed was how her life of neglect began. I couldn’t understand how so many people could do such things to another human being, but right before my eyes her story unfolded.
My soul wept with Alessandra. Her tears were my tears now and I wanted to make all her fears go away, to fade into the arms of love and acceptance. She looked at me subconsciously, brutality the new normal for her. I watched in horror as so many capable souls ignored her cries for help. They saw her suffering and remained silent, her pain the entertainment for the wicked. She suffered unjustly, being treated like the trash in a human landfill… Depravity personified.
The tide of my visions changed. In a line, I could see all the people who had ever hurt Alessandra. Her rapist met his fate by going insane. He sat on the end of a soiled couch tormented by constant visions of torture and schizophrenic episodes. I watched as he stabbed himself in his jugular vein and bled out. He screamed that the devil and his demons were dragging him to hell as he breathed his last.
I saw the foster mom who beat Alessandra and tied her up being burned with cigarettes in a woman’s prison. She was being tortured and beat in a similar fashion as she inflicted upon Alessandra and I felt an overwhelming sense of satisfaction as I heard her screams for help fall upon deaf ears.
I saw the pistol whipping black man in a room full of mexicans and what I surmised from the vision, he was captured by the cartel. They beat him savagely. They yanked his teeth out of his head one by one. They snipped the digits off his hands one by one and when the pain became to much for him to bare, they would hit him with a stun gun to jolt him awake. They eventually poured gasoline on him and burned him alive.
I saw some of the people that were spectators in the life of Alessandra’s creep show, seeing the injustices and turning a blind eye. Some where going through divorces, foreclosures and legal problems. Some had become victims of rape and domestic violence themselves. Some committed suicide while other’s battled cancer or other forms of life threatening diseases. I could not help but feel that what needed to come full circle, did on these people. It was satisfying to know that some form of justice met evil at the crossroad of fate and karma.
As quick as these visions formed, they dissipated into the grey matter of my minds eye. I now found myself looking at a familiar scene. It was me running down the soggy embankment towards a motionless body. It played out just as I had lived it, except in my vision, there was a multitude of human-like silhouettes on the horizon; body-like images traced with a light of an inexplicable hue. It was other-worldly. It was as if there was a stadium of angelic spectators watching me..seeing if I would do the right thing. I did and the lights, the aura on the horizon seemed to celebrate, their hues and shifting light swirling and mingling in harmony.
I awoke startled, Alessandra’s hand slowly lifting from my eyes. She wasn’t the same person I remembered. There were no scratches or bruises on her face and arms. There was no mud on her clothes, no, matter of fact, she stood before me in pure white, her beauty to behold! She shone with white brilliance only with subtle hues and arrangements of the perfect light. She didn’t say a word to me, she just smiled as if my kindness restored her faith in humanity. I felt anxious as uncertainty washed over me, my mind racing.
The TV in the hotel room suddenly turned on. I turned to look and was shocked to see law enforcement pulling a body out of the ravine where I rescued Alessandra.
“But…” I turned towards Alessandra but she was gone. Vanished!
I finished watching the news of the girl found murdered and I knew it was Alessandra. They didn’t know who she was at this point, but I did. If I would have been a little earlier, perhaps I could have saved her. I wasn’t though. A life of misery that ended in tragedy. It wasn’t fair I thought. Justice in the next life I suppose.
I reflected on my encounter with Alessandra and I tried to make sense of it all. Did it really even happen, I questioned. I could’nt answer that question, but I did know that something extraordinary happened to me that night. I learned not to be a spectator meandering about while a tragedy is unfolding right before my eyes. Any one of us could be one step away from saving someone from the evil that people do, but we may not have the courage to do so. I say , find the courage. My true test came after the fact, but something beyond the here and now turned the tide and tested me. This time I passed.
I slept like a baby that night. I returned the bike and made it to the airport with only minutes to spare before my plane began taxiing for departure. I gazed out the window as the lines on the tarmac blurred into one solid line. In the reflection of my window, a smokey angelic image appeared. It was Alessandra. She was along for the ride. I smiled and shook my head thinking that I might be losing it. I turned to the person next to me and made eye contact. Clearly I was in this seat for a reason as the man began to sob.
“Sir…can I help you?” I asked with empathy as the lights on the horizon mingled and danced in harmony.
