Silvermist Falls Chapter Two

Emric (E):

I feel like I am so misunderstood. People see my stature and my talent to throw a football but they don’t see me. I am seen for what I am good at and not what I am or want to be. Everything in my life, isn’t because I want it that way. It’s my father’s plan, my father is living his dreams through me. Because he could have been this football allstar in the pros if my mother never ended up pregnant when she did. A part of me thinks my father blames for me for how his life turned out. And instead of just moving on with the idea that he will never see the pros, he just lives that life and dream through me. Football isn’t the life that I want. I want to be a writer, I love my books and everything that comes with it.

It was after football practice; I went home and my drill sergeant father was going on and on about D1 schools and my scholarship that basically lets me choose any college in the country. Not only do I have a scholarship for football, I received one for my academics. My father doesn’t know about that one. He would rip it up and set it on fire if he has nothing to do with football. See how controlled I am in this. My father wants me to go to Alabama and I don’t want to.

“Emric, this an opportunity of a lifetime!” Dad yelled.

“Dad I get that, but.” I tried to get out but Dad had more to say as usual.

“No buts E! You have worked your whole life for this.” Dad scolded.

“No Dad, this is what you have worked my whole life for! Never what I want is considered! I never said no to Alabama Dad.. I just want to keep options open.” I added.

“What options Emric?! This is the number one school!” Dad’s voice was getting angrier.

“Dad! Can you just stop!” I snapped. I stormed from the table and I heard my mother call after me. I grabbed my keys and slammed the door and sped away in my car.

He never listens. He would flip out if he found out I got into NYU for a full ride for Literature. I want to go there. I always wanted to live in the big city. Especially after we had a school trip to visit the campus. I fell in love and that moment I knew, that is what I belonged. My mom knew about it and I couldn’t thank her enough for keeping it from my father. I need to tell him but now is not the right time and mom even knows that too.

I pulled up to my spot, when I notied another car in the lot. I didn’t think anyone else knew of this place. It was kinda of hidden, its on the far edge of town where no one goes. The moon was bright tonight, it wasn’t quite full. I could hear the wind picking up, the trees singing and the leaves twirling. I made my way to my spot by the cliffs where you could see everything. As I got closer, I seen a girl sitting on the edge. When I moved to get a closer look. I stepped on a twig making it snap. She whipped around, when I had to say something. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize someone was here. I’ll just go.”

“No, stay. I actually was just leaving.” Her voice was kind and soft.

She grabbed her things and moved closer to me. I knew her, it was Raven. “I know you.” I said.

“I don’t think you do.” She replied.

“Your Raven.. Raven Knight” She kept her eyes on me. I couldn’t get over how beautiful she was. How did I now see her at school like this? How did I go to school with her this long and not realize her beauty.

“I am.” She answered.

“I’m Emric..”

” I know who you are.” She snapped. I know she didn’t mean it. I felt my heart beat a little faster. “I’m sorry.” Shes spat out. “That came off really rude.” Her voice was calm once more.

“It’s okay.” I said. “Why are you here? Alone I mean. I added.

“Um, its a good place to think.” She replied.

“I thought I was the only one who knew of this place.” She looked at me like no one has ever looked at me before. She told me her father used to bring her here when she was younger, and she just came here ever since. She looked at me as if she was studying me. The way she looked at me made me feel, well I don’t know. Like she was seeing me or trying to. Her eyes gleamed in the moon light when I see her pupil grow larger. “You, okay?” I asked. Her eyes went back to normal, and she looked at me for a moment and said, “I have to go.” She rushed away. “Hey wait!” I called after her, but she never turned back.
