When Justice Rises
The night rolls over the leaves
Frozen on the ground
Neath the clear cold ice.
Shoes crunch and slide
Over a frozen past
Waiting for the warmth of dawn
When justice shall rise
And those locked in jail
For the crime of poverty
Shall rise and be given justice
And a survivor’s wage
In an Oprah Winfrey world
Where black is as white as the sun
And all are known by their acts
And the kindness of their hearts.
