“This Dream Is Not For You” by Wade Joye is a good read for anyone who needs to release their dreams to God and let Him have His way in the reader’s life. Instead of clinging to a dream, the author challenges the reader to release the dream to God for any number of reasons: the dream may not be of God, the timing isn’t right, we make an idol of the dream because we seek the dream’s fulfillment more than we seek God, etc.
Around 200 pages, the book addresses many points, including:
– Lies about a dream.
– Characteristics of a life apart from God, including the pursuit of the dream.
– Blind spots we have that can keep us from seeking God’s wisdom and insights from other people.
– Questions to ask yourself in determining whether our relentless pursuit of a dream can actually hurt us.
– Questions to ask yourself about your disappointment in an unfulfilled dream for changing your devotion to God instead.
– The need to realign our heart’s desires to God’s desires for our life.
– Wherever we are, God wants to work in and through us for His glory.
– The importance of consistency instead of the temporary nature of emotional excitement.
– The right thing to do is often the hard thing to do.
– Confronting the obstacle of entitlement.
Things I liked about the book:
– Good end of chapter questions to ask yourself about your dream and relationship with Go.
– Easy to read and follow.
– Good balance of the authors’ personal experiences and practical/spiritual insights.
– Nice relief from the hype of other dream-based books.
– Good number of biblical references for making a point.
Overall a good read and recommended. I was given a review copy by Worthy Books in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
