“All God’s Children” by Terence Lester is a good read and encouragement in improving race relations by acknowledging problems from the past. Just over 200 pages, the author addresses many topics on the issue, including:
– Racial reconciliation cannot be solved by conversations alone.
– The difference between justice (lasting change) and charity (temporary generosity).
– Importance of the church acting with compassion.
– Understanding what minorities have experienced in past and current US history.
– Justice and reconciliation is often mentioned in the Bible.
– The checkered past of the Southern Baptist Convention.
– The different types of biases and how they can be handed down from generation to generation.
– Real and lasting change happens when human hearts are truly changed by the gospel.
– Ways exclusion can be destructive.
Good read and wakeup call for the church to work on racial reconciliation. Recommended.
I was given a review copy by IVP in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
