“The Spirit, Ethics, And Eternal Life” by Jarvis Williams is an excellent read on the Holy Spirt working in the Book of Galatians and how the Holy Spirit impacts relationships among Christian believers. Around 200 pages, the book addresses many topics, including:

    – The history of scholarship on the work of the Holy Spirit in the Book of Galatians.

    – Various viewpoints on the Holy Spirit’s work.

    – The Holy Spirit’s work among Jews and Gentiles in the New Testament and how that applies today.

    – Description of the biblical term of justification.

    – A strong case that salvation and justification are by faith alone in Jesus Christ and not by works or a combination of faith and works.

    – Paul’s authority in the gospel ministry.

    – How the Holy Spirit transforms a person’s ethics.

    – Various stages of the end times judgment.

After reading the book, here’s what I like:

    – Very good footnotes and scripture index for further study.

    – Very good introduction of the book’s contents (you know what to expect when reading a particular chapter).

    – Well organized.

    – Smooth flow from chapter to chapter (not a choppy or distracting read that bounces from topic to topic in a particular chapter).

    – While an academic read, relatively easy to read and understand.

    – Appropriate for personal study or sermon/Bible study preparation.

    – Makes a good connection between the Bible and the individual believer’s life.

Overall, a great read and recommended.

I was given a review copy by IVP in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
