“Non-Toxic Masculinity” is a good read on men gaining a true identity from a Christian viewpoint and not based on just sexuality or masculinity. Around 200 pages, the book addresses many topics, including:
– Definition of the “purity culture”.
– How the purity culture was expressed throughout different generations.
– The various messages of the purity culture.
– Definition of toxic masculinity.
– How men and women have been dehumanized by the toxic masculinity culture.
– Various ways of how futile the effort to fight temptation in the flesh compared to addressing temptation in the power of the Gospel and the Holy Spirit.
– How pornography destroys people.
– Having healthy boundaries in romantic relationships.
The book is relevant, easy to read, written from a Christian perspective that does not whitewash an important topic, smoothly flows from chapter to chapter, and has good footnotes for anyone wanting to further study the subject. Recommended.
I was given a review copy by IVP in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
