As the title mentions, the book “A Contemporary Handbook For Weddings & Funerals & Other Occasions” is targeted towards ministers who officiate various church occasions. Being a recently ordained minister, I have done a funeral, Lord’s Supper, and may later this help officiate a wedding. Having read enough of this book, here’s what I like about the title:
– Covers many of the main church occasions – weddings, funerals, Lord’s Supper, baptism, Mother’s Day, Christmas, child dedication, etc.
– Contains articles by many pastors and scholars (good variety of insights and viewpoints).
– Easy to read and understand.
– Addresses many relevant topics on the various church occasions.
– Smooth flow from chapter to chapter.
– Lists suggested additional resources to read for a particular church occasion.
– While over 400 pages, the book is a good size (not large) and not heavy to carry around.
– Comprehensive scriptural index.
About the only criticism I really have is I would have liked to have seen more input (instead of a brief summary) of some church occasions like baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Still, a good read and very handy for anyone needing prep or insights for officiating a church occasion. Highly recommended.
I was given a review copy by Kregel in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
