“In All The Scriptures” is a great and helpful read on biblical hermeneutics. Around 270 pages, the book covers many topics, including:
– What is hermeneutics and why it needs to be studied.
– Description of the literary, historical, and christological contexts for interpreting the Bible.
– Interpreting scripture in the postmodern world.
– The importance of the Bible’s integrity and coherency before interpreting obscure text.
– 5 ways to use historical context.
– The history and story of God’s people.
– Major recurring Bible themes.
– Questions to ask yourself concerning biblical application.
After reading enough of this book, this is what I like:
– While an academic title, the book is understandable and easy to follow.
– Well organized and addresses several relevant topics.
– A timely book in a day and time when people are either turning away from the Bible or more show interest in the book.
– Christ centered.
I will read this title more deeply in the future, but know that this is a very good, relevant, and helpful read. Highly recommended. I was given a review copy by IVP in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
