“Praying For America” by Robert Jeffress is a good read for the Christian believer to pray for our country. Around 180 pages, the book covers 40 areas to pray about, including:

    – Religious freedom
    – Education
    – President, federal, state, and local politicians.
    – Law enforcement, first responders, and other public servants.
    – Godly marriages.
    – The voiceless and those in prison.
    – Fellow Christians.
    – Personal repentance.
    – Spiritual blindness.
    – Revival and evangelism.

Each chapter is around 5 pages, and is organized as follows:

    – Some background on the topic, usually something from American history.
    – Suggested prayer.
    – Appropriate Bible verse.

The book is easy to read, informative, coves a wide variety of topics, and is easy to read. I wholeheartedly agree with Jeffress’ statement that the reason we have so many problems in our country is because we have forgotten and left God out of our lives. Nothing else – rioting, focusing too much on man-made solutions, money, power, etc, will solve our problems – only Jesus can bring deep and lasting change!

The only real complaint is that I would have liked to have seen more about the topic of racism. While related topics (Jim Crow laws, prison, etc.) are mentioned, I believe, especially today, that more focus should have been on racism.

Still, a good read and encouragement to pray for our country.
