leftthoughts

  • It is a sad fact that in our socially connected and enlightened world that is 2021 there are a few among us that have yet to evolve above the mentality of a Neanderthal when communicating their thoughts online. I […]

    • I remember this story. He was just the cutest person making his rounds around his property. I had no idea Neanderthals were being Neanderthals. Another sad thing about this….is that this online behavior is not shocking. We have encountered doses of it here at times. I have seen it at times on Twitter and sometimes I will just respond with a simple “Idiot” IF I even respond. I normally do not allow myself to get pulled into a back and forth. Because we know you can not make sense of them. Maybe a punk kid….maybe a sad pathetic adult. I try not to think too much about those animals because I can easily get frustrated. But I wonder if their accounts can be blocked if enough people complain?
There must be ways to handle them these days.
We know this man was a wonderful person with a kind heart…..those punks can’t change that.

    • The Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter are coming under increasing pressure to clean up their acts when it come to abuse. Just recently some black sports stars over here have been trolled by these strange people – some included death threats! There is a growing trend within the population that is getting louder as the days go by, they are calling on these media sites to do more than they are doing right now – we all know they can do more but are they willing to put the time in it will take to monitor their sites properly?

  • Hey diddle diddle
There is no cat or moon
The sun is bright and shining
    Come listen to my tune
    Bring your bow and fiddle
    And learn to play along
Together we will fill the grove
    With music, laughter, and song.

    • Love the tree.

    • Beautiful tree, and good poem. I did some poetry at one time for a site that had competitions, sort of, in writing poems or stories based on a word or picture (both kinds) and know how hard it is sometimes to come up with one that works.
      Good work, Jules.

    • Thanks, but I’m a bit hopeless at poetry. But 8 line limericks I can get my head around.

  • I have just been to Epsom Downs Racecourse, one of the many vaccine hubs scattered across the UK where I got jabbed with the AstraZeneka Covid vaccine. Apart from a slightly inflamed area on my arm where the […]

    • Astra Zeneca was the one I wanted when it was still in the testing phase. But it hasn’t been approved over here yet and my mother (retired nurse) recommended Pfizer. So Pfizer is the jab I got. And I should say STAB because like I mentioned ….I didnt feel the initial 💉shot….but after a while I felt like my arm was stabbed or better yet…punched 100 times by Rocky Balboa 🤣

  • So …I ended getting the first Vaccine a few weeks ago. I didn’t think my sons Tribe would include me in their Vaccination list but they asked my sons if I wanted it or anyone else in our household. I felt […]

Growing up in the 70’s, we were able to leave our vehicle un-locked, as well as our home. Today you need state of the art security systems, and even that is not full proof. The leadership of this great country have not been doing anything but making things worse. They talk a good talk of making improvements, they fail terribly in they’re actions.

  • My last thought admonishing Senators to vote according to their oath of office did not take into account that they are politicians. And politicians are always more concerned with the next election than what is […]

    • Just hearing about him again turns my stomach. It just irks me how politicians are owned.

    • My response is that if trump keeps his name and mantle on the Republican Party, that is even more reason for us to come together to make sure in every way we can that the Republicans lose as much impact as possible. Personally, for me, that means I will vote for almost any democrat over trump minions, for others it is other persons.

But I will never accept the idea that “they are all the same”. Yes, they are all politicians but trump and those that follow him like puppies have shown even more disgusting disregard for the nation than any Democrat and a lot of moderate republicans….which the trumpers have tried to push out of the party.

    • Leftthoughts, I will agree not all politicians are not the same, but one never knows for sure their most inner views until put to the test. And I will never vote for another Republican again, even though there may be ‘good’ for the country Republicans. There are even a few of the present Republicans that publicly state they know Trump has to be held accountable, but just not by them. Go figure!

      • That is a cop-out if I have ever heard one…but what can you expect from the members of a party so far up trump’s rear end that they haven’t seen sunlight in four years. I actually wrote a blog today on another site actually applauding one of my republican senators (I have two, heaven help me) for voting to continue the trial….admitting, if you will, that it was Constitutional to continue.

Now, he will probably flake out and vote to acquit because he has pretty much been in trump’s pocket up till now but at least he voted correctly the one time. I advice him that he needs to continue and actually listen to the evidence….but time will tell. He hardly ever listens to his ordinary constituents. Now, if you are big oil or big pharma, he has all the time in the world for you…just like the other one..

  • Imagine a world like this. So many things would be different.

  • When it’s decision time, I am often reminded of Robert Frost’s poem:

‘The road not taken’, and now it seems that the Republican senators have to decide which ‘road’ to take:

    “…Two roads diverged in a w […]

    • I love, love, love shows like this.
So interesting! I would buy up a Chateau like this in a heartbeat if I could. Reminds me of some of the pictures my dad’s godmother in Switzerland used to send.

I also love watching Fixer Upper, Joanna and Chip. Tiny Houses. They truly amaze me!

      • YES…..I have to monitor how many shows I get into because they are addicting. AND…there are so many shows like this out there.
I think from what I saw…they have lived there a few years and still have not got to half the rooms. Renovating them that is.

        • They really are very addicting.
It’s been quite easy for me to get hooked on them last year. The company I work for has had all 150 of us working remotely, so I turn the TV on for noise, and of course, end up watching while doing tasks.

I can’t even imagine renovating that many rooms. That is a LOT!!!

          • You got to work from home? Thank goodness for that. Being able to keep working through this pandemic. I would be horrible at it. I see those commercials where people are in pajama bottoms and nice tops doing conference calls. I know myself…..I would probably start watching soap operas all day and actually getting some work done at midnight ☺️
YES….45 rooms in this Chateau. I definitely would have to marry a Journeyman to do all this work. You should start watching the show…..this man could do everything. He is ex military and a chef. He also is a trained gardener I think…he just knows it all. And she is so cute. She is so talented with design and unique ideas. And to do all of this with small children….AMAZING.

    • This is quite a lengthy documentary series which first began airing in June 2016.
It has 7 seasons, and 32 episodes in all.
So there’s much to see if you want to watch the entire series.

There are several DIY shows which come and go in the UK and one of the stand-out programs is called “Grand Designs” – a program which follows the construction of a house from foundations to the roof. It may sound ordinary but it really isn’t.

    • Are you serious?
I can’t wait for them to release more Chateau seasons.
We also have MANY shows like this. But I was drawn to the Chateau because of the amazing castle like home….and the beautiful couple doing it all.

    • Someone remodeled the big house (Chateau) which is not my thing at all. I prefer getting an apartment as is, and not having to worry about it. Oh maybe pick out a picture or two. LOL This somehow brings to mind an interview I saw part of earlier today of Fran Lebowitz who emphasised that she is lazy. She got one bad job after another when she first moved to New York at 18, and finally just realized she didnt’ wanna work, period.

      That’s sort of me.

      • I kind of get this. I think we feel LAZY when its something we really are not passionate about. I never had to do a remodel….and I probably won’t ever. But I love the idea of it…I love how creative some people can get over it. My fun is designing a room. But….it is also draining too.
I sometimes just want to hire a decorator to come and decorate every room in my house because I can never make my mind up. I can spend months debating over a chair…..and once I decide on the model….add a few more months on picking a color. And add a few more months after that for picking the fabric/texture. ITS HORRIBLE. But…. once I get going I am ok.

Yeah…..pictures are an issue with me too. Because I only want to hang my own art work. But I don’t because I want to paint in a color scheme I decide on for the room. And ….and….and…..it doesn’t end you see. 😔
        😉

  • My sister “Queen of Horror” sent this to me earlier today and I didn’t watch it at the time because I wasn’t in the mood to watch a horror scene. But she assured me it was different. So….I just watched it. […]

    • There’s much one can read into this film – allegory or metaphor, but I wouldn’t consider it a horror film. 11 people all sat around a table feasting on what will become their last supper. The biblical last supper was attended by Jesus and his 12 disciples. Biblical connotations?

The diners’ appear to be eating several endangered species with gusto, and have no moral compunction over the terrible consequences such attitudes will ultimately cause. So Mankind sinks under the weight of his own sins – this being gluttony, and again, another biblical reference is exposed. In a visual metaphor we see the diners’ and their table drop to the lower floor. . .are there no limits that mankind will sink to for momentary satisfaction?

Maybe they are in purgatory forced to repeat their past sins before ascending to heaven?

The script writer definitely had something in mind when this was written, and even to the casual viewer it is clear that there is so much more going on here then what is seen on the surface. It’s the insatiable appetite – primarily – the need to use up all the Earth’s resources rather than protect them. Mankind is descending rather than ascending as He should be.

There is more, but I could go on forever.

      • After reading your response, I have to say my first reaction is “why didn’t I take it any deeper”. I seem to tend to be so literal about things like this. A group of people eating and falling through several floors, is just people eating while the floor falls out from under them…and I miss any “allegory” that might be there.

Suspect you are right, don’t doubt it for a minute. I just don’t think in those terms.

        • I might have done the same thing as you….but I was asked my opinion of the movie so I had to look at it from as many angles as possible. My sister can get into some deeper discussions. So I have to “try” to dive as deep too. ☺️

    • I think you hit all areas that we discussed over this. Well….the thoughts the people in the group brought up to her and she shared with me. And I just realized DoDo bird me didn’t post my view. I thought for sure Gluttony ….that was the only thing I saw. But she brought up all the ideas she was discussing with other people….which was along the lines of what you wrote. Your very observant Jules.
I also felt….this short film was not “Horror” unless of course you are a devout religious being 🙃 It is labeled Horror which is why I didnt watch it right away. So again….agree with Jules on this.
But I also felt it was a nicely made short film.

I started watching a show which distracted me from posting my view here last night. I can’t stand getting caught up in a series. 😁

    • Ok, I am going to respond without reading what you said so that you can get the closest thing to a “fresh” viewpoint as possible.

First, I was wondering what the heck was going on. These intense people were really dedicated to eating whatever that was. Then the food stuff bothered me. It looked like they were eating baby chickens or something..I mean in the egg chickens, unhatched chickens, except they were fairly big so what were they really?!!

Then as time went on, my attention went from “what the heck are they eating” to when is the next floor going to give way, and why didn’t these crazy people just start out on the ground floor in the first place.

I think it ended up being more perplexing and sort of funny rather than “horror.”

      • YES…not horror in the sense that we thought. But I imagine a religious person could see the horror in it if they see the “Gluttony” and the “descending” floors.

        • Yeah, I think I would be pretty “horrorified” if the floors kept giving way. I wouldn’t be really happy for even one to give way.
