What do you think of Legal / Medical Marijuana in USA?« Back to Questions List

What are your thoughts of the widespread adoption in the United States of America of legalized recreational marijuana where it can be bought and sold over the counter without prescription. For those states that don't offer legal rec marijuana many states do offer licensed patients legal Medical Marijuana that is prescribed by a doctor in several states as well. Do you think there pros outweigh the cons?

I think it should be legalized, it is much less likely to cause anyone to be injured than alcohol and that’s legal. It just doesn’t make sense that a item that has known medical qualities (people that have HIV or cancer have their appetite increased which is a benefit in and of itself) is illegal when a product that results in many deaths every year is legal.

I believe the PROS outweigh the CONS. My mother came to visit me and wanted to visit a Dispensary. I first took her to a friends Vape shop where she also sold CBD products. The CBD products instantly worked on my mothers aches. A few weeks later we visited a dispensary and only I was able to enter because you needed a California ID and my mother and sister were visiting from out of state. They also said you needed a Drs prescription and there was one inside we could see and he would write one. NOT being prepared for that…I looked at my mother and said we need to discuss this because I would have to go in and say I had my mothers ailments to get what she needed and I didn’t know EXACTLY what she wanted it for and this was my ”pristine” ID this was going under and was I prepared to play this game? So we left and said we would discuss at home. I mean…it was for my mother…and since I retired early I wasn’t concerned about my background checks anymore so I was ok doing this for her. But I had a Chiropractor (my friend) appointment the next day and she told me to go to a place some of her patience go to. No prescription required. She recommended it for elders and people with some issues…so we went and my mother bought a tincture with a balance of CBD and THC which did miracles for her. She has been able to get off some of her medications and feels so healthy. And this place was ran so professionally and it was clean and actually beautiful. I went to visit her for New Years and stocked her up……but I bought her an all THC mixture and she slept and slept and came out of her room with a bushy head looking for munchies. I can laugh about it now….

As for the recreational use…..I don’t have a problem with that either. If we legalized Alcohol….we should legalize marijuana. Yes people will have addiction problems….but people get addicted to everything. Theres help for every kind of addiction.

It is legalized medcally in around 30 states or 60% of the country, but the government still considers marijuana as a drug that has no medicinal value. It is also very much legal in 9 states for both medical and recreational purposes, and the total sale of marijuana is in around 12-18 billion dollars. In some states, there are more marijuana consumers than alcohol, so federal will soon have no choice but to legalize marijuana and they would have to admit that they have wasted billions of taxpayers dollars to accomplish nothing except for the USA to have the highest incarceration rate of first world nations.

That’s a very contentious issue which has raised many arguments over the years since campaigning began. Countries like Holland and Canada have legalised it, and there are probably more to add to the list. Here in Britain it has already been prescribed to certain patients by doctors simply because it does have medicinal uses. But there’s a long way to go yet until the world at large embraces its use for recreational purposes.
